Ingredients

  • 3 apples medium
  • 1 bag (11 oz) soft caramels unwrapped
  • 2 tbsp water

Equipment

  • 1 large baking sheet
  • 1 2-quart saucepan

Method

  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut each apple into 8 wedges.
  3. Remove the cores and cut each wedge in half crosswise.
  4. Pat the apple pieces thoroughly dry with paper towels.
  5. Combine the caramels and water in a 2-quart saucepan and warm over low heat, stirring constantly, until the caramel is smooth, about 5 minutes.
  6. Dip each apple piece halfway into the caramel.
  7. Let excess caramel drip back into the pan.
  8. Set each dipped apple piece on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Refrigerate the bites for 10 to 15 minutes, until the caramel is firm, and serve.

Notes

Pat the apple pieces thoroughly dry so the caramel clings well. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; freezing is not recommended because it can affect the apples’ texture. For a dairy-free option, use dairy-free soft caramels.
