Ingredients

  • 12 strawberries large, with leafy tops attached
  • 6 oz semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 24 candy eyeballs
  • 12 orange candy-coated chocolates mini
  • 24 pretzel sticks thin

Equipment

  • 1 13x18-inch rimmed baking sheet
  • 1 tall microwave-safe cup
  • 1 microwave

Method

  1. Line a 13x18-inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Rinse the strawberries and pat them completely dry, keeping the leafy tops attached.
  3. Combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a tall, microwave-safe cup; microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring after each, for 1 to 2 minutes total, until smooth.
  4. Dip each strawberry in the chocolate to coat the fruit but not the leaves, letting excess chocolate drip back into the cup; set each berry on its side on the prepared sheet with the pointed end facing forward.
  5. While the coating is wet, press two candy eyeballs onto the exposed side near the pointed end and an orange candy at the tip; dip one end of two pretzel sticks in chocolate and attach them to the lower edge of each berry, angled forward and down like legs.
  6. Refrigerate for 15 to 20 minutes, until the chocolate is firm.

Notes

Pat the strawberries completely dry so the chocolate coats well. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days; freezing is not recommended. For a dairy-free option, use dairy-free semisweet chocolate chips and check that the candies are dairy-free.
