Ingredients

  • 1 block (8 oz) sharp cheddar cut into 3/4-inch cubes, reserving 1 thin slice for the star
  • 1 block (8 oz) pepper Jack cut into 3/4-inch cubes
  • 8 oz Genoa salami folded into quarters
  • 1 lb green grapes rinsed, dried, and cut into small clusters
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes rinsed and dried
  • 1 cup mixed olives pitted and drained
  • 6 sprigs rosemary fresh
  • 1 box (12 oz) assorted crackers
  • 1 bag (8 oz) pretzel sticks

Equipment

  • 1 18x24-inch serving board or platter
  • 1 small star-shaped cutter

Method

  1. Use a small star-shaped cutter to cut a star from the reserved cheddar slice.
  2. On an 18x24-inch serving board or platter, arrange the rosemary sprigs into the outline of a tree, with the point at the top and the wide end at the bottom.
  3. Fill the outlined tree with alternating rows of cheddar, pepper Jack, folded salami, and grape clusters, keeping the rows wider toward the bottom.
  4. Place the cheddar star at the top.
  5. Tuck cherry tomatoes and olives between the rows as ornaments, distributing them evenly over the tree.
  6. Arrange the crackers around the tree.
  7. Make a short trunk at the base with pretzel sticks.
  8. Serve promptly.
  9. Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours.

Notes

For the neatest rows and crisp crackers, assemble the board shortly before serving. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days; freezing is not recommended. Use gluten-free crackers for a gluten-free option.
