Make and bake the rolls
- Lightly coat a large bowl with 1 teaspoon of the vegetable oil.
- Stir the warm milk, sugar, and yeast together in a large mixing bowl; let stand for 5–10 minutes, until foamy.
- Whisk in the egg and 4 tablespoons of the melted, cooled butter.
- Add the flour and 1 teaspoon of the salt, then mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead on a clean work surface for 8–10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Transfer the dough to the oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1 1/2 hours, until doubled in size.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with the remaining 2 teaspoons of oil.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces, shape into balls, and arrange them in the dish.
- Cover loosely and let rise for 30–45 minutes, until puffy.
- Meanwhile, heat the oven to 350°F.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the rolls are golden brown on top.
Make the garlic butter
- Melt the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan over low heat.
- Add the garlic and cook for 30–60 seconds, stirring, until fragrant.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the parsley and remaining 1/8 teaspoon of salt.
- Brush the garlic butter over the hot rolls.
- Let the rolls rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For evenly sized rolls, weigh the dough before dividing. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days; freeze for up to 2 months. For a dairy-free version, use unsweetened plant milk and dairy-free butter.
